COOLING HIKING HAT
Evaporative Cooling Clothing works under the same principle your body uses to cool itself. Your body sweats, the moisture on your body evaporates and this cools your body. The lower the humidity the greater the ability for the moisture to evaporate and provide the cooling effect.
The polymer crystals turn into gel and hold moisture. The crystals will hold the water in a way that will not make the hat feel wet to the touch after the hat is hydrated properly.
Our cooling Safari Hat is constructed right into the hat to create surround-the-head cooling performance. This oversized brim meets and exceeds dermatologist's recommended brim size.

We've added grommets to allow more top-of-the-head air-flow and an adjustable draw-cord to keep it snugly on your head during windy days.
The Safari Hatbandoo is constructed with 55% cotton and 45% linen to give it a slightly rugged Safari appearance while remaining soft and comfortable.
Safari Hatbandoo Sizing - Size small/medium usually fits approximately size 7 to 7-1/4 hat size and size large/extra large usually fits approximately size 7-3/8 to 7-5/8 hat size. Our Safari Hatbandoos are oversized to allow for the crystals to swell.
By leaving it in water a little more or a little less you can adjust the swelling of the band thus adjust the size. We suggest you check it occasionally as you are hydrating to create a perfect fit for you.
General Use Tips
- Soak hat in water for approximately 5 mins (soaking times will vary depending on local water mineral content)
- Crystals may settle to one side of the hat during shipping
- First Time Use: soak the hat for a few minutes to soften the crystals
- Massage the softened crystals evenly around the hat for further hydration
- After crystals are properly hydrated, pat the hat dry with a towel, and let the hat sit to the outer desired dryness.
- The hat is ready to wear.
- Occasional waving of the hat will increase general evaporation and the cooling effect.
- If the hat is over hydrated the crystals will continue to absorb water and press through the fabric.
- If the hat is over hydrated, wipe and wash the excess crystals off and pat dry for use.
- Over hydration will also decrease the the size of the hat making it feel too tight.
